ALSTHOM sèrie 700

Les locomotores de la sèrie 700 i 1000 (renumerades per FGC com a sèrie 251) provenen d'antigues adquisicions per part de la CGFC (Companyia General dels Ferrocarrils Catalans) de les locomotores de la sèrie 700 i per part del MO (Manresa-Olvan, explotat per l'Estat) de les locomotores de la sèrie 1000. Van ser un total de deu locomotores (entre les 700 i les 1000) anomenades Alsthom que es van començar a utilitzar a finals dels anys cinquanta, per remolcar tant trens de viatgers com de mercaderies. Més endavant, l'aparició d'automotors les van anar convertint en locomotores només de mercaderies. Les locomotores de la sèrie 700/1000 són del tipus B-B, tenen un motor dièsel de 4 temps que ofereix una potència nominal de 850 CV i un esforç de tracció de 10.300 kg. Desenvolupen una velocitat màxima de 70 km/h, tenint les locomotores una longitud de 11,174m i un pes en ordre de marxa de 44000 kg. L'arribada les potents 254 l'any 1990 van fer que actualment siguin les màquines auxiliars dels trens de mercaderies. Rarament fan serveis complets de remolc de vagons en plena línia sinó que més aviat fan d'ajuda per a maniobres de trens, sobretot a Solvay i al Port de Barcelona. De les deu locomotores que hi havia a FGC en queden quatre, ja que la resta s'han venut a empreses de construcció de ferrocarrils com són Comsa, Vías y Construcciones, TECSA i Guinovart.

La locomotora que hi ha a Can Mercader és privada i està cedida per a l’ús de l’entitat.
